Docks, Sorrel
(Rumex Spp) There are several species of Rumex including either Dock or Sorrel in their common names. They are perennials and all have creeping stems or wide spreading root systems – mature plants will cover large areas. Thought to be native to Europe, most docks are now widespread, especially in temperate areas; some even thrive in swampy areas. Docks produce long, slender flower stalks packed with small flowers in clusters and often reddish brown in colour. These will mature to produce masses of quite fine seeds that are readily dispersed by wind and water. Left unchecked, this group of weeds may spread to cover significant areas.
