There are many types of garden weeds and it is important that all gardeners should be able to distinguish between them. Garden weeds are known by both their common names and scientific names. If you can successfully distinguish between types of garden weeds then finding a weed killer becomes much easier.

The types of garden weed and their names may vary by region, but it is nonetheless important to be able to distinguish between the most common weeds in order to find an effective weed killer. Many types of garden weed exist and appropriate methods of eradication may differ.

Different types of garden weeds.

There are three main types of garden weeds: annual weeds, biennial weeds and perennial weeds. Biennial and perennial weeds tend to live for a long time and are tougher than annual weeds. They have strong, deep roots from which new plants sprout every year, this makes them near impossible to eliminate without using a deep root weed killer to kill off the roots. By contrast, annual weeds have a much shorter life cycle and regenerate by spreading their seeds in the surrounding area. To properly eradicate these weeds it is fundamental that weed killer is used before they spread their seeds, as a few weeds could rapidly multiply into an invasive population which would take a lot more work to destroy!
